Everyday life with Love

This last week after Christmas has been a quiet one.  We're back down to just the resident hounds and Love, and she quickly took advantage of having a little down-time to herself!!

Here, Love demonstrates how best to help the human who is trying to make the bed.   After all, if you don't lay on a pillow sham, it might get away.  Thank you, Love   ;-)

Love eats very well.  She always cleans her dish and is very fond of treats.  Love has sensitive gums, and tends to eat slowly, and chew treats slowly, but she always finishes.

She's very much a stuffie girl!  Toss it and she pounces.  Turn your back, and she's out the door with one in her mouth.  I missed this one and it'll spend a few days in the yard until I can get it back in!!

But mostly, Love does what all greyhounds do best... nap.  She's shown no interest in getting on my furniture, but she sure loves the floor beds.

And where better to pass the afternoon on a cold rainy winter day...

Spending the holidays with a few friends

It's been a pretty crowded house here for the last few days.  A friend visited with her 6 greyhounds, making 13 greyhounds here over Christmas!!  It was heaven for greyhound-lovers, but I wasn't sure if Love would appreciate all that company, commotion, and change in routine.

WRONG!  She was fine!  She got along perfectly with everyone, and never lost her own routine.  She's actually proving to be very adaptable!

I didn't have to make any special adjustments for her.  Love still did well being left with my hounds (and some of the visitors) when we were out.  She never missed a meal.  She slept perfectly.  And she never lost her housebreaking manners.

Love's in each of these pictures but hard to see... behind a tail, at the edge of the picture, and in a crowd.  She was almost always right in the thick of things.

Well, maybe she was a little worried about getting lost in the crowd at meal time but that could never happen!  Who could overlook that adorable face!!

And, of course, a greyhound always has to have their down-time.  There's nothing more important than a nap.

The guests have left.  We're back down to just 7 hounds now.  Love really seemed to enjoy all the company, and wasn't fazed at all by the new happenings.  Good girl!!

What a Love!

Love has been visiting with me over the holidays while her wonderful foster family is away, and I wanted to write a little bit about her in her blog.  Suddenly leaving her foster family and "landing" in a new place will be very similar to what happens when she is adopted.

Sooooo, how is she doing?  In a word... GREYT!!!   This is Love!

A little background... Love has had a harder time than many hounds since her retirement.  She was adopted, but developed very bad separation anxiety, and came back to her safety net... GPA Nashville.  If you're thinking about adopting, DON'T STOP READING HERE!!!  This story has a happy ending!!!

Love's anxiety issue was severe.  Ultimately, she started on an anti-anxiety medication and it has made ALL the difference in the world to her! The medication is given once a day, is very inexpensive, and she takes it effortlessly.

Love is a normal greyhound now!  She can be left alone with her greyhound buddies, and she's not anxious or destructive.  She active, interactive, and plays with stuffies.  She loves the yard and explores.  She is loving and affectionate, but not pushy.

Here are a few pictures to introduce you to this adorable sweetie...

And this is how you gently play with stuffies:

Come back to read more about this precious greyhound.  I've fostered and kept many MANY greyhounds and, believe me, Love is a really REALLY nice and easy girl to have here.

OK, and I admit it... I'm calling her Love-bug  :-)

Update on Love

Love has been back with us for a few weeks now and is doing very well. She takes a pill once daily for anxiety - gulps it down with her morning meal, so no drama there. We haven't been crating her, but we leave her behind a baby gate with our 2 hounds during the day and she has had no destructive episodes or accidents. She escaped that room once while we were out to dinner (we must not have had the gate tight enough), but again, no damage or accidents in the house.

She is a sweet girl who follows us everywhere and gets along well with the resident hounds. She loves stuffie and her evening rawhide chew. Based on our experience, she would do very well in a calm home with at least 1 other dog. Wouldn't you like to add a little Love to your home today? :)

Gets along well with others...

Just thought I'd share this picture to show how well Love gets along with other hounds. Notice the empty crate on the left - she thought she would rather share with Ragtime. I'm sure Christina finds this all most amusing...

Still looking...

Haven't posted in a while - just want to update everyone on Love. She's still doing very well and loves to be around the humans in the house. She's very playful with stuffies and the 2 resident greys. She takes her retirement very seriously and will lie down anywhere - even hardwood floors seem comfortable to her.

We were out of town last weekend and she stayed with Liza & Paul with Bugs & Lana. All reports are that she did very well, even when given the run of the house while they were doing errands.

Love is going on a home visit Saturday and will spend some time at the 100 Oaks M&G after that if she doesn't find her forever home. Come meet this sweet girl - despite her very bald butt, she's awfully close to perfect! :)

Love's First Home Visit

Love went on her first home visit today, and Liz and Lou said she did very well. The family fell in love with another dog, however, so Love is back with us. On the home visit, she was around several kids, and they loved her, so she would probably do well in a home with kids.

After the home visit, we spent some time on this beautiful day at the 100 Oaks M&G. As usual, Love enjoyed the attention and being around the other people and hounds. She is currently engaging in one of her favorite pastimes (napping) after a very busy day.

Congrats to Kaizen on finding his forever home today - we're sure Love will find hers soon. Could it be yours? ;)
